GUY WALTERS
Guy studied Landscape Architecture at Gloucestershire College of Art and Technology whilst on a bursary from the Army. Having been committed to a short service commission, he served in the UK, Cyprus and Northern Ireland before returning to Landscape Architecture. In 1989, he joined the Civil Service as a landscape architect with the Property Services Agency in Edinburgh,
He gained his professional qualifications whilst working for the PSA in 1991. When the PSA was privatised he became a landscape associate with TPS Consult from 1994 before joining Abbey Holford Rowe in 1999. Guy became an Associate at AHR in 2003, shortly after the company changed its name to Aedas.
Guy was Regional Director of Aedas from 2007-2010 and had overall responsibility for the landscape output from the 4 UK landscape teams with in particular the Glasgow and Edinburgh offices. Originally working in Glasgow he grew his team sufficiently to move across to Edinburgh in 2008 where he was closer to home. During 2009-2012 Guy represented the Landscape Institute Scotland on the Edinburgh Urban Design Panel.
Guy set up The Sterry-Walters Partnership, with his wife Hannah, in December 2010. Hannah is also a qualified Landscape Architect with experience in, Private Practice, Charitable Organisations and Local Authority.
The aim of the new practice has been to be able to provide a more focused and personal approach to landscape projects and to offer closer support to clients than was possible under previous employment.
HANNAH WALTERSHannah is a Director of The Sterry-Walters Partnership Ltd. She is a Landscape Designer with over 10 years’ experience in the industry with a variety of organisations.
Following graduation, Hannah joined Guy in Cambridge and worked for The Groundworks Trust on a voluntary basis working with the community to design and build a playground on a derelict recreation area in the town. Moving, with Guy, to Scotland, Hannah worked for the Livingston Development Corporation on various groundworks and soft landscape projects where she gained valuable experience in the design of robust public planting schemes.
When LDC closed Hannah moved to private practice, using her groundworks and planting experience on a number of business and recreational projects throughout central Scotland.
While bringing up children she worked freelance for Crummock Homes, providing planting designs for housing developments within the Scottish Borders.
Hannah has in-depth experience of working within education as she managed an early years setting through the introduction of the Curriculum for Excellence and provides regular supply assistance in Nursery, Primary and High Schools in the Borders.
Since setting up S-WP Ltd with her husband, Hannah has specialised in outdoor education and is a member of Grounds for Learning.
Over the past three years Hannah has volunteered with the Borders Environmental Education Service (Instinctively Wild), with whom she gained a Forest Schools qualification, and now regularly leads woodland based natural play projects on behalf of Scottish Borders and East Lothian councils.
